Munthehuset was a meeting place for scolars, explorers and Norway's leading painters of the national romantic period, during the first half of that century.
Famous painters such as Johannes Flintoe and Joachim Frich were frequent visitors, and it was here that Adolf Tidemand and Hans Gude met for the first time. J.C. Dahl used the Munthe House as a base for several walking expeditions in the magnificent countryside.
The Munthe Villa has now been restored and offers guided tours, accommodation and meals for groops on request.
